9. PUNTATXAMAR

A challenging route offering breathtaking views and an exciting descent, ideal for lovers of hiking and adventure.

The route leaves Roncal through the San Juan neighborhood and follows the path climbing towward Mendigatxa ravine. After joining route 10, the climb continues relentlessly up the north face of La Corona peak. From Puntabarrena, the route crests toward Puntatxamar, and just before the summit, a rapid descent begins toward the village of Roncal. The 6 km descent from Puntatxamar to Roncal is one of the best in the valley. Despite a steep average gradient of around 16%, technically difficult sections only appear at the beginning of the descent. The succession of steep sections on both the ascent to Puntabarrena and the descent makes this a short but very explosive route.
