Historic fortifications in the Pyrenees, built by prisoners, are now a Space of Memory undergoing restoration, ideal for cultural tourism.
The Alto de Urkiaga bunkers form part of the vast Pyrenean fortifications of the 1940s and 1950s. Hundreds of defensive structures line these slopes, built to protect New Spain from invasion. Thousands of prisoners of the Franco regime constructed them through forced labor. Today, it stands as a "Espacio de Memoría".
