A short and attractive route that highlights the local flora, historical ruins and a charming forest, ideal for enjoying nature and history.
This short and attractive route with information panels about the various species of trees and shrubs along the way. It begins at the Virgen de las Nieves visitor centre at an altitude of 855 metres, which provides access to the ruins of the Casas de Irati and the remains of an 18th-century fort, the site of several battles. After passing the chapel of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, built in 1954 with a traditional shingle roof and naive murals by Bartolozzi and Sotés, the track enters the forest. The route wades across the Urtxuria River, which has little or no flow in summer and presents no difficulties; furthermore it is always possible to cross it barefoot!
