The Camino de los Canónigos served as the only walk permitted to canons outside the walls of the Collegiate Church in the distant past when they lived under the strict cloistered rule of St Augustine. In addition to offering beautiful views of the church complex, the route visits two fountains: the Roldán fountain, where legend says the Frankish knight was wounded, and the Virgin fountain, where tradition holds that shepherds found the image of the Virgin of Roncesvalles.
